Frequently Asked Questions#1....Isn't this defacing? Section 331. Title 18, U.S. CODE: Prohibits among other things the fraudulent alteration and mutilation of United States and foreign coins. This statute does not prohibit the mutilation of coins if done without fraudulent intent or if the mutilated coins are not used fraudulently... so what does that mean??? This law was written with the sole intention of protecting the silver content of the coins. Before the US Mint converted to a Copper-Nickel Clad for coins, they of course had investment in the coins in the form of silver. More often than not the melted silver content of the coins was worth more than the face value of the coins. Criminal Defaceing involved melting and selling the silver which of course the government would eventually have to buy back at a loss to make more coins. From my research the rumour was actually sparked by coin artisans who could legally practice the art, but could not sell the scraps. Some laws prevented the hoarding of silver putting the coin artist in a catch 22 and sparking a time honored mis-understanding of the law. Since 1970, the only coin still worth more by weight was the penny, which also ended in 1983 when the US mint decreased copper content in pennies to 2%. It is impossible to illegally defraud the government now using coins. #2....How do I decide a length for my chain? The easiest way is to take a piece of string and loop it around your neck, ankle or wrist. Loosen or tigten it to the desired look and measure with a ruler. For pendants use an old nut or washer and hold that nut or washer where you want it to hang. Tighten and measure. All my necklaces, bracelets and anklets are guaranteed so if you would like to change it just contact me and I will adjust it for the cost of shipping ussually $2. #3....Why do you use silver electroplated clasps and Clip-Ons?For the Larger moving parts, sterling silver is a very soft metal and bends or breaks very easily. I use the silver-electroplated brass to provide strength and durability. If you are alergic to the brass please let me know and I can special Order the sterling parts at a little extra cost. #4... Can I mix and match different cut-outs for a pair of earrings?Sure....Alot of my customers say to me "I would like to get a pair with 2 different statehood cut outs because the person I am giving them two lives there and here". Because everything is handcrafted I can make single states for each side and it is no trouble. Just be sure to E-Mail Me with your special request because my site is not set up to split pairs. I don't want you to be overcharged. #5...I have a coin I saved can you cut it out for me?Yes...There are some restrictions on special one of a kind coins customers give me to cut out but 99% of the time it is possible. The best and fastest way to see is to E-Mail Me me a picture of the coin and a description of what you would like me to do.
